Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology will finance 10 up-to-date research projects through competitive selection, said a press release.
On this occasion an Internal Research Grant Awarding Ceremony was held at the BUET Council Building on Sunday afternoon.
Professor Satya Prasad Majumder, vice-chancellor of BUET, presided over the occasion while planning minister MA Mannan was present as the chief guest.
Chairman (secretary) of Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council Satyajit Karmaker and chairman of BEXIMCO Group ASF Rahman were present as special guests and pro-vice-chancellor of BUET Professor Abdul Jabbar Khan also present as the guest of honour.
This is the first time that research proposals have been invited through a research portal under the auspices of the Research and Innovation Centre for Science and Engineering.
It received 45 proposals and 36 were initially selected. After that, 10 out of 36 research projects were finally selected based on the opinions of a total of 111 observers from home and abroad.
Speaking as the chief guest, the minister of planning said, ‘The prime minister has a special interest and compassion for education. Therefore, the government, the Ministry of Planning, BEPRC and we will always stand by BUET.’
The minister expressed his gratitude and appreciation to BUET for carrying out research activities with its own funds.
Earlier, Professor Muhammad Anisuzzaman Talukder, director of RISE, highlighted BUET’s recent research and innovation work plan and progress in the welcome address.
Senior officials of various industries including GPH Ispat, Unilever Bangladesh, Walton, BEXIMCO, Energy Pack, the deans, directors of various departments, institutes and directorates, heads of departments, and representatives of electronic and print media were present on the occasion.
