Shinepukur Ceramics Ltd has clocked a whopping 21 percent growth in exports in FY 2004-05 compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The country’s top ceramic tableware exporter fetched US$17.58 million in overseas sales earnings during the period against $14.07 million of the FY 2003-04, according to Shinepukur Ceramics.

Md Rafiqul Islam, general manager (finance, accounts, administration and IT) of Shinepukur Ceramics, said the export earnings accounted for a staggering 62.52 percent of Bangladesh’s total ceramic tableware exports in FY2004-05, which stood at $28.12 million, according to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

“Our insistence on good quality of products and use of standard raw materials helped Shinepukur Ceramics achieve this success,” said Islam.

“The quality of our products including dinner, tea, cake and fruit sets is far superior than India and China’s,” added Islam. He said new designs and shapes are being developed in both the porcelain and bone China units to meet the demand of buyers abroad.

Shinepukur Ceramics, a sister concern of Beximco Group, is the leading ceramic tableware exporter of the country having two state-of-the-art units for producing porcelain and bone china tableware at Savar, some 35 km off Dhaka.

The units are equipped with modern quality control laboratory facilities, decal plant, carton-packaging plant, modelling unit, and have gas-based power generation capacity.

The porcelain unit is capable of producing 60,000 pieces a day, while the capacity of the bone china unit is 10,000 pieces a day.

Since its commercial production began in 1999, Shinepukur Ceramics, a 100 percent export-oriented company, has so far exported its products to the UK, US, Spain, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Russia, the UAE, Denmark, Germany, Turkey and India.
