The British delegation highly appreciated the state-of-the-art facilities for production and testing of high-quality PPE in Beximco PPE park
British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson has assured of extending cooperation to Beximco so that the firm can achieve and uphold international standards in personal protective equipment (PPE) manufacturing.
“At this time of the pandemic, the demand for and crisis on PPE availability is growing worldwide,” he said, adding that Beximco's PPE production venture is a positive move.
Dickson made the remarks on Sunday when a delegation of four members from the British High Commission Dhaka led by him, along with his wife Teressa Albor, Head of Trade and Investment in Bangladesh Derek Griffiths, and Head of Governance and Political Team Tom Burge, visited Beximco Industrial Park and Beximco PPE Park.
“Beximco is manufacturing high quality PPE, which is instrumental in providing security during Covid-19,” the high commissioner added.
Responding to a question by a journalist, he also conveyed his condolences to victims of recent violence surrounding Durga Puja celebrations.
“The UK stands with those working for religious tolerance and harmony, in Bangladesh and around the world,” he added.
Syed Naved Husain, group director and CEO of Beximco, thanked High Commissioner Dickson and his team members for their continuous support in establishing world-class PPE facilities at the Beximco PPE Park.
“The UK high commissioner has played a fantastic and important role as a great friend of Bangladesh and Beximco in starting the journey of PPE production,” he added.
He also said that the whole delegation team of the UK High Commission has supported Beximco during the start of the journey.
PPE is essential to fight against Covid-19, Husain further said, adding that Beximco is a leader in both the pharmaceuticals and textile sectors, so it is getting a natural advantage in manufacturing the PPE.
“We are fortunate that a skilled and talented team is working in both pharmaceuticals and textiles sectors. At the same time, a talented team is also working on manufacturing PPE and with a flock of sincere workers and a team of world-class scholars,” he added.
He also said that since the launch of the PPE Park, the commitment, passion and dedication of the workers has been very surprising and that they are making massive improvements every day.
“The apparel business is very challenging at present. To survive here, business must be regulated with intensity and all facilities must be world-class,” he added.
The British team visited the modern PPE manufacturing facilities inside Beximco PPE Park, including the INTERTEK lab, which is on the same premises.
The Beximco PPE team demonstrated production facilities and cutting-edge technologies to produce hospital-grade gowns, coveralls, surgical masks, respirators and non-woven fabrics for local and international markets.
The British team highly appreciated the state-of-the-art facilities for production and testing of high-quality PPE in Beximco PPE park.
