Utshob Ahmed Wins Historic WBC Title for Bangladesh in BEXIMCO Xcel Boxing Championship 3.0

Boxer Utshob Ahmed made a new history as he became the country’s first boxer to win a World Boxing Council (WBC) belt named ‘WBC Asia Silver Super Flyweight Title’ in the Beximco Excel Boxing Championship (XBC) 3.0 on Saturday.

Utshob beat Indian boxer Mazhar Hossain in their thrilling eight-round bout of the super fly category held at the InterContinental Dhaka here. A total of 22 boxers from India, Iran, Tanzania, China and hosts Bangladesh competed in eleven matches of the third XBC Fight Night – organized by Xcel Sports Management and Promotions and title sponsored by Beximco Group.

Country’s celebrated boxer Suro Krishna Chakma, who is also the ABF Super Lightweight Intercontinental champion, lost to Chinese boxer Biao Liu in the lightweight division of that event. Among others, Emon Tongchangya lost to Iranian boxer Mahdi Sarbaz, Moksadul Rana lost to French boxer Thomas Guillemette in the welterweight division.

Hossain beat Armanul Faysal in the minimum weight category, Muhammad Easin beat Shihab in the bantamweight bout and Ratan Kumar beat Lalkhawn Sang in the super lightweight division.

In the women's bout, Rima Sarkar beat Naushin Tasnim in the featherweight category and Sanjida Jannat beat Rubina Akhtar in the minimum weight category.
